Next time you’re driving through the mountains of Virginia or lounging at the Carolina Beach and your phone rings, look around. You might just find one of our trucks nearby, at one of the 500 US Cellular towers that we maintain. US Cellular isn’t kidding when they say that they are way way way out here; their towers are all over, in all sorts of out of the way places. In fact, sometimes we have to take a four wheel drive vehicle or a ferry to get to the remotest of the transmitters.
Even when they are in obscure places, every cell phone tower must have a backup generator to keep it powered during an electricity outage. That’s where we come in. We service and repair the US Cellular tower site generators, following a rigorous checklist of standards that they give us.
As part of our routine maintenance, we audit the generator and the transfer switch. We perform outage simulations to make sure everything functions. We clean out the generators, too…everything from mud to rodents. If there is a storm, we’re on call to set up mobile generators, to refuel, and to make sure that the generator is going. If there’s a problem, we fix it.
So even when the tower is way way way out there, we are, too. Just another way that we keep you powered – for life!
