It makes sense that the bigger the generator the more you’re going to have to spend. But here’s something that may surprise you – sometimes it’s more cost effective to buy two smaller generators and coordinate their efforts.
We recently had a customer who wanted to power his whole house. The generator large enough to do that was the 38kw generator with a price tag of about $14,000. We recommended that instead of buying one large unit, that he buy two smaller 14kw generators for around $10,000, and use Kohler®’s PowerSync™ to ‘parallel’ the units.
You can do this, too! You can use a Kohler® PowerSync™ Automatic Paralleling Module. It’s designed to parallel two 14RESA or two 20RESA single phase generators – running only one generator until the load increases enough that the second generator is needed. Then it automatically starts, synchronizes, and connects the second generator.
There are a lot of benefits to this, including:
- extended generator life
- reduced fuel consumption
- provision for redundant operation
- added protection in case of generator fail
- …and a smaller pricetag!
And, of course, the PowerSync™ plays nicely with all of your other Kohler® products – the automatic transfer switch, Load Control Module, Programmable Interface Module and OnCue®. It all adds up to savings for you! Give us a call today, and find out how getting two generators can add up for big savings for you – keeping you (more affordably) powered for life.
